Man Killed through Selfie stick by Lightning

Two men were killed by separate lightning strikes over the weekend in Wales's Brecon Beacons mountain range.

One of the men is said to have been carrying a metal selfie stick.
Now a report in the Telegraph, citing sources close to the rescue of others who were also injured, is suggesting that the selfie stick may have attracted the lightning bolt.
I have contacted the local Dyfed-Powys police for confirmation that a selfie stick may have been involved and will update, should I hear.

When lightning is around, it's well-known that people should stay away from anything that conducts electricity. This even includes landline phones.
Golfers scamper away from their metal clubs (at least they should) when lightning is nearby. Swimmers should vacate the water, as the human body could be a channel for an electrical discharge and water conducts electricity efficiently.
Some people are struck directly by bolts (and can survive). However, some are also hit when the current has already hit the ground and is moving along it.
The National Severe Storms Laboratory says that lightning strikes can carry anything from 100,000 to 1 billion volts of electricity. It estimates the odds of ever being struck as 1 in 3,000 (assuming a lifespan of 80 years). The odds of being killed or injured by lightning during one year in the US are 1 in 240,000.

The NSSL's suggestions for safety include finding safe shelter or a metal-topped vehicle with the windows up. If you are inside, it recommends not to lie down, even on concrete floors, and not to lean on concrete walls.
Selfie sticks have become a symbol of the modern need to photograph oneself doing anything and even nothing.

In what seemed like humor at the time, Pizza Hut created a YouTube video describing all the potential dangers of selfie sticks -- a lightning strike was among them.
In the case of the walkers in Wales, rescuers told the Telegraph that the storm arrived extremely quickly.
However, the dangers of carrying anything metal are underlined by the possibility that a selfie stick may have contributed to someone's death.

69 dead in Mozambique after drinking poisonous home brew

A homemade alcoholic drink has reportedly killed 69 people and sickened nearly 200 others in a village in Mozambique.

A group of people returning from a funeral stopped off late Friday in an area where customers can buy a popular home brew -- made from sorghum, bran corn and sugar, and known as Phombe -- according to state-run Radio Mozambique.

By Saturday morning, dead bodies of those who drank the Phombe began arriving at a hospital, the radio station reported, citing Paula Bernardo, a health official in the district of Cahora Bassa.

Senator Abe flown to London

Senator Magnus Abe, who was allegedly shot twice in the chest with a rubber bullet by the Police at a rally,  Sunday,  in  Port Harcourt, Rivers State has been flown  to London.
Vanguard gathered the Senator had already received  first aid treatment in two hospitals in Port Harcourt.

Meantime, Media aide to Senator Abe, Mr Honour Sirawoo, told the Vanguard that  Senator Abe who represents, Rivers South East Senatorial district, was first admitted at a hospital in D line area of Port Harcourt but was later transferred to another hospital with better equipment to handle his situation after series of tests.
Sirawoo told the Vanguard that he was not with the Senator when he was shot but that he rushed to the hospital to see the Senator who was on drip and could not talk.
Senator treated for traumatic shock –Doctor
Dr Mackay Anyanwu who administered first aide to Senator Abe at Krisany Medical services, in D line where he was first rushed to, told newsmen that the Senator was treated for traumatic shock .
He said: “The patient was brought in a state of a shock, as evidenced by low blood pressure. He was restless and he couldn’t communicate or reason coherently. As a first aid, we treated him for traumatic shock because the implication of his state was that there was severe blood trauma and the amount of layers affected could not be detected immediately. This can only be done through haemorrhoid tests’’

Family members search, find and kill woman’s abusive ex-boyfriend after he kidnapped her!

A family determined to save their kidnapped relative tracked her down to an abandoned Louisiana house, saving her life and killing her captor after she went missing for almost three full days, according to multiple sources.

Bethany Arceneaux, 29, was allegedly abducted Wednesday afternoon in Lafayette by her ex-boyfriend Scott Thomas, also 29, and the father to her 2-year-old son, The Daily Advertiser first reports.

A witness to the abduction, Derrimetrie Robinson, said she saw Arceneaux honking her car horn for help in parking lot as Thomas forced his way into her car and attacked her. When Robinson rushed to the scene, Arceneaux begged the woman to take her son, according to the Advertiser.

Robinson managed to grab the 2-year-old boy during the
struggle, as Thomas shoved Arceneaux into his car and sped away, she said.

Later Wednesday evening, police found Thomas’ white Buick near a field.

On Thursday morning, the Lafayette Police Department had little new information about the kidnapping.
Family members began posting fliers of the missing mother and searched surrounding areas, according to the New York Daily News.

“Based off the information officers received at the day care about the way the victim was confronted by Thomas, we believe she may be in a situation where she could be harmed,” spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said Thursday as police continued to search.

By dark, the rescue search was called off for the day.

On Friday, as police and family members alike searched near Thomas’ abandoned car, along with areas near his hometown, witnesses gave the family members a tip about a vacant house in a nearby field where the car was located.

Daily Advertiser photographer Leslie Westbrook, who spent much of the day with the family as they searched, was there to capture the intense scenes that soon played out.

A neighborhood resident and another man, along with almost half a dozen members of Arceneaux’s family, took off on four-wheelers towards the house.

As they got closer, family members said they heard the screams of their missing relative begging for help.

The family converged on the house, kicking down the door as Thomas allegedly began stabbing Arceneaux multiple times, according to KLFY, a local news station.

This was not the first time Thomas allegedly abused Arceneaux, but it would be the last.

An armed family member shot Thomas three times, killing him, Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Capt. Kip Judice said.

In a chilling photo taken by Westbrook, Bethany is seen, battered and bloodied, being carried to a vehicle by her uncle, Marcus Arceneaux, after the deadly confrontation.

“She’s shook up, she’s sliced up, but she’s all right,” said her brother, Ryan Arceneaux. He and another brother, Kaylyn Alfred, were among the family members who entered the house.

“We found her,” Ryan Arceneaux said. “We went and got her in that house. We kicked doors down.”

The victim was discharged from the hospital Saturday, reunited with her 2-year-old son. She told investigators that while in the abandoned house, she had nothing to eat or drink.

No family members have been charged in the killing of Thomas, and may never be. A state “defense of others” law says homicide can be justified if someone’s life is in danger, local station KATC reported.

Chris Brown Hit-and-Run Case Dismissed

Singer nets legal victory in May car accident.

Less than a week after a huge health scare, Chris Brown officially has something to smile about. The singer— who suffered a seizure that his rep says was brought on by "unfounded legal matters" and "nonstop negativity" — scored a victory in court today when a judge dismissed his hit-and-run case, according to TMZ.

Brown was accused of fleeing the scene of a car accident in May. The woman involved wanted the case dismissed given the minor damage to her vehicle, but prosecutors argued that the Virginia native be punished for violating the terms of his five-year probation. 

According to the L.A. City attorney, Brown verbally attacked the woman and refused to produce a driver's license or insurance information. He was booked on a hit-and-run in July and released from custody within an hour.

From the start, Brown vehemently denied wrongdoing. Attorney Mark Geragos believes his client was targeted because of his celebrity. "The case never should have been filed in the first place," Geragos told TMZ. "It's unfortunate he was being prosecuted for who he is rather than what he's done."

Responding to the win this afternoon, Brown tweeted, "!!!!!!! Thank GOD!"      

Chris Brown Denies Hit-and-Run Allegations

Car accident could lead to jail time for Brown. 

The law never really seems to be on Chris Brown's side, but don't expect him to take his latest legal drama lying down. Brown is accused in a hit-and-run accident that could land him behind bars for probation violation; he is vehemently denying claims of wrongdoing.

The 24-year-old rear-ended a woman's Mercedes near Los Angeles last week, and reportedly refused to hand over his driver's license number, plus gave her fake insurance information. He went on to get peeved with the woman when she pressed him for an ID, before leaving the scene all together.

Sources close to Brown tell TMZ that the story is untrue and that he handled everything correctly, stating that any hold up in the process isn't his fault. The Virginia native claims to have not only followed the proper protocol, but asserts that when his lawyer reached out to the woman, she got upset and hung up on him. The woman hasn't responded since, and judging by the photo from the scene it may be because her car wasn't actually damaged. “Chris was fully cooperative. He pulled over at the scene and gave the woman his correct insurance details,” a source told The Mirror. “He has tried to contact the driver to confirm the right information following the allegations. Unfortunately, it would seem she has gone off the radar and isn't responding to his attempts to resolve the situation.”

While Brown is said to be the focus of an LAPD investigation, authorities have not contacted him, nor anyone in his inner circle. If he's found in violation of the law, a four-year prison sentence could be on the horizon.

Brown's probationary restrictions stem from his 2009 assault on Rihanna. A judge ordered him to take domestic violence classes and complete community service, in addition to placing him on probation for five years. With one year left, Brown has stayed out of trouble with the law — for the most part. Last June, he and Drake got into a bottle-throwing melee at a New York City nightclub, resulting in a lawsuit from San Antonio Spurs player Tony Parker, who claimed to have been injured in the cross-room battle. In another situation, he was named for jacking a woman's iPhone when she tried to take a picture of him, but was cleared. 

Most recently, Brown was captured on video threatening a valet driver for charging him $10 to park at an event. 

Given his criminal past, the "Fine China" singer may just have a public target on his back, but on a different note, his personal life seems to be less tumultuous. After breaking up only to make up and break up again (this year) he and Rihanna have officially called it quits.

Rumor has it that Brown has rekindled his romance with ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran.

Report: Chris Brown Suffers Seizure at Recording Studio

Singer refused medical treatment, says source.

Chris Brown suffered a seizure at a music studio in Hollywood early this morning, TMZ reports, adding that the "Fine China" crooner declined treatment.

At around 1 a.m., someone from the Record Plant recording studio called the medical emergency 911. A source told the website that when EMT's arrived Brown refused medical treatment and wouldn't go to a hospital. 

Breezy reportedly suffered seizures as a child. He has yet to confirm or deny the story.

A rumored medical emergency adds another potentially stressful item to Brown's already packed plate. His ongoing legal troubles came to a head when he was charged with hit and run, revoking his probation stemming from the 2009 assault on Rihanna. He recently turned himself in to authorities, and spent roughly 45 minutes in custody. 

The stress of it all may point to Brown's decision to possibly hang up the mic. Earlier in the week, he tweeted about quitting music after the release of his X album, due out this fall.

Lifeless Body of Nigerian Found on Private Beach in Cyprus

A man's body, identified as Stanley Eteimo, was found floating in a private beach in Cyprus on Thursday (August 8th).

The 28-year-old budding singer and an IT student in Girne American University had gone to a party at a popular 5-star hotel called Kratos Hotel the previous day Wednesday (August 7th) with some friends.

The late Bayelsa state indigene at the party met a white girl he knew from school and started chatting with her. The white girl’s boyfriend, who was also at the party, got jealous and confronted Stanley, which led to serious argument between the two men. According to Stanley's friends, the white dude allegedly threatened to kill Stanley for disrespecting him and was overhead saying nothing will happen because Stanley was in his country.

At 2am, some of the friends, Stanley came with to the party, were leaving and asked him to come along, but he refused. By 4am, the party had ended and the Nigerian boys who left at the close of the party didn’t see him and assumed he had gone home.

By 3pm on Thursday (August 8th), management of Kratos Hotel called the police informing them of seeing a body floating by the shore of their private beach. It was Stanley.

Cyprus police have declared it a suicide case without autopsy. They are claiming he committed suicide by drowning himself. His brother who went to identify Stanley’s body said he saw blood stain from his ear, mouth and nose.

The brother insists it’s not suicide because Stanley had no reason to commit suicide and wants the guy who threatened him at the party that night investigated. Also, the hotel refused to provide CCTV tapes of that particular day. During the day, the 5star hotel has workers, life guards and security guards, who have all denied either seeing Stanley come in or go out of the premises.
